An elderly woman who lives by herself has survived a six-day ordeal in a locked toilet.

After not hearing from the unnamed 83-year-old woman from Dinan in north-western France for a few days, her niece alerted the police.

Officers found the woman in a weak and dehydrated state – but still alive and desperately waiting to be rescued.

Fireman were called to carry the woman out of the building and she was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she’s believed to be recovering from her ordeal.

Local media have reported that the toilet cubicle was “cramped” but it’s unclear if it had a sink or how the woman managed under the conditions.
