When British couple Hannah and Glenn Devine tied the knot in The Netherlands, many of their friends and relatives couldn’t attend because of coronavirus travel restrictions.
So they decided to scale down their wedding, and to include a very special bridesmaid – Babe, their pet pig.
“Of course, we celebrated with our family and friends in Holland and Babe’s role for the day meant that she could fill the spaces of everyone that couldn’t be there,” said Hannah (25).
“To say she did a good job is an understatement – she was so calm during the photos and she listened to us perfectly.”
Hannah and
Glenn, who met in the Caribbean three year ago, live and work in The
Netherlands. They “knew Babe would be the center of attention on the day,” but
they didn’t mind one bit.
The couple kept tasty raspberry treats on hand in case the 20-month-old pig needed to be reigned in but she was on her best behaviour.
“Fortunately, the big day wasn’t one of those where she pretends she’s starving and eats like a pig – excuse the pun.”
The couple decided on a pet pig instead of a dog, to better suit their busy work schedules. Hannah is a plumber and Glenn is a carpenter.

“Glenn and I spoke lots about getting a dog, however with our schedules we decided it just wasn’t possible,” Hannah said.
The couple visited a farm and paid a deposit for a piglet that would be born from a litter in six weeks.
“However, we received a call earlier than expected, as there was a little piglet left over from a previous litter that needed a home.”
It’s been a roller-coaster ride with Babe, they say.
“It’s like having a three-year-old child with a personality
of a cat, but with sledgehammers as feet.”
Their wedding day went on without a glitch.
“We know for sure she enjoyed the day. Babe got all sorts of treats from us and others and she took herself to bed a little earlier than normal.
“We couldn’t have imagined our wedding day without Babe.”
