While many of us wish we could fit into our clothes as well we did before lockdown, an American couple has celebrated their diamond anniversary with a sweet photoshoot – wearing the same wedding clothes they donned decades earlier.

Marvin and Lucille Stone, from Nebraska in America, recently celebrated their 60th anniversary with a romantic walk down memory lane, and it’s giving us all the feels.

The couple looked as loved-up as they were on their wedding day back in 1940. Marvin (88) was dapper in a black tux as he and Lucille (81) danced and posed together in an open field near their home as the sun set behind them.

The bride looked enchanting in her lace gown – the same dress Lucille sewed herself six decades ago. “The thing that took the longest was making 52 buttons that are on the sleeves and down the back,” she tells The Daily Mail.

Lucille and Martin are former teachers who started dating while they were working at the same school. The lovebirds said their I do’s a year after they met in a small church in Nebraska when Lucille was 22 years old. “It was a typical wedding. We had a pastor who was in his first ceremony wedding... and he was a little shook, but he did it and we were married,” recalls Marvin, who was 29 at the time.

Now they have three children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. It was their children’s idea to arrange a professional photo shoot to mark their milestone anniversary.

Photographer Kate Autry wanted to recreate the couple’s wedding photos and while planning the shoot, Lucille got the idea to wear her decades-old wedding dress. “I had to alter a little bit in the back for the waistline after three babies,” she tells Insider. But the fixes were easy to make for the former home economics teacher. “I put a little inset with some white satin that matched.”

Her sewing skills aren’t the only thing that’s stood the test of time. “I still feel about him the same way as when we stood in front of the altar,” Lucille says.

From day one “we assumed marriage is forever,” she says, but she’s the first to admit she and Marvin don’t have a perfect marriage. “We’ve had arguments. We’ve had disagreements, but on the big things we’re pretty much on the same track.”

There’s one nugget of advice she thinks couples should hear. “Forgive what you are offended by,” she says, “and encourage each other.”
