Presidents and their pets have always been a feature of recent White House life, with the exception of Donald Trump who kept no animals while he was in charge. And it’s not just dogs and cats – horses, lizards, raccoons and even a pygmy hippo have taken up residence in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC.
