Sure, the president is an important person. But as any animal lover will tell you, the real ruler of the roost in any home is the family pet – even if that home is the White House.

Presidents and their pets have always been a feature of recent White House life, with the exception of Donald Trump who kept no animals while he was in charge. And it’s not just dogs and cats – horses, lizards, raccoons and even a pygmy hippo have taken up residence in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC.

Joe Biden brings back the tradition of having animals at the world-famous property when he; wife Jill; and their two German shepherds, Champ and Major, move in.
