For most of us, 2020 was a year we’d rather forget. The pandemic wrought havoc, robbing people of jobs and seeing many companies going belly-up. But one man is laughing all the way to the bank.
South African-born entrepreneur extraordinaire Elon Musk (49) is officially the richest person in the world with a whopping $188 billion (R2,8 trillion) to his name – $4bn (R59bn) more than Amazon boss Jeff Bezos, the next guy on the uber-rich ladder.
“We are really so proud of him,” his half-sister, Alexandra Musk (28), says. “But for Elon it’s just about getting back to work, investing his money in the airspace industry and sticking to his dream of establishing a human settlement on Mars because he’s concerned about the future of Earth. That’s his goal. He wants to help humanity.”
