Valentine’s Day is almost upon us and while love might be in the air for some, others could be trying to get over a heartbreak. And what better way to do that than with a little bit of humour.
According to Mirror, Hemsley Conservation Centre (HCC), a zoo based in the United Kingdom, is selling cockroaches for R30,90 to singletons under an initiative dubbed “name a cockroach”.
“The start of 2022, let’s face it, hasn’t been great… and if you have been dumped recently it is even worse,” the Zoo stated on it’s website.
“But now it is time to cast those negative thoughts and feelings aside and to put a smile back on your face.
“For those that don’t quite require revenge, there’s another way to make you feel better about getting back at your ex on Valentine’s Day.
“We are highlighting these creatures through our ‘name a cockroach programme’ (we think adopt is a little too strong, after all – you probably don’t want to adopt your friend’s ex) to raise money for our projects at the zoo.”
Once you’ve adopted your roach, you will receive certification acknowledging the purchase.
But the pest will remain enclosed in the zoo’s insect embodiment and names will appear on the roach board, The Sun reports.
In a statement on its website, HCC said that the money collected from the programme will be used towards funding the zoo.
That’s one way of doing something bad for a good cause.
