She chased Grand Slam titles and won them one after another, darting around the court and annihilating opponents with her signature backhand slice.

Ashleigh Barty was on top of her game and on top of the world, the first indigenous Australian to reach No 1 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings.

After her historic win in the Australian Open in January, she was a favourite to hold the Wimbledon trophy aloft for the second year in a row.
