The defeat was about as humiliating as a loss could be. “It was a bad day, no doubt about that,” came the manager’s response.

“It was our worst ever day.”

Those words were uttered by Sir Alex Ferguson in October 2011 when Manchester United lost 5-0 to Manchester City. Now, a decade later almost to the day, Ole Gunnar Solskjær finds himself in the same position. “It is the darkest day I have had leading these players,” the Norwegian said after his team were recently thrashed 5-0 by Liverpool – at Old Trafford, no less.
