He believes the metaverse will be the future of the internet. In fact, so strong is his conviction, he was willing to pay almost R1 billion – in cash – to buy the trademark of the name.

It’s safe to say Mark Zuckerberg is serious about dominating the metaverse, as the recent purchase of the trademark name from US bank Meta Financial group showed. As the year drew to a close Meta Platforms Inc, which is how Zuck rebranded the company formerly known as Facebook Inc, paid $60 million in cash for all rights to the Meta name. 

But that’s pocket change compared to how much he’s already spent to start growing the metaverse – but he believes the cost is worth it for what he wants to achieve. And what is that exactly?
