True love will always find a way, even in the midst of a pandemic.

That is what Giuseppe Pungente, a nurse from Italy, proved this when he proposed to his girlfriend, Carmen Pinto – with a little help from his personal protective equipment (PPE).

In a Facebook post that has since gone viral, he shared a photo of himself popping the big question in the corridor of the Ostuni Hospital in Puglia. But it was not your typical proposal.

Giuseppe, who has his back to the camera, asks the question via a message scrawled in Italian on his PPE suit. “Carmeli, do you want to marry me?”, he’s written, along with the options “yes” and “no” below.

In his heartfelt New Year’s Facebook post, the nurse wrote about being on the frontline of the Covid-19 pandemic and how it has made him appreciate the simple things in life.

“I have developed the idea that real life is made of small and simple things. Such as close friends, birth family, and a future together with you, Carmen Pinto.”

According to La Repubblica, Giuseppe contracted the virus at the beginning of the outbreak in March last year and also recently got vaccinated.
