He made history when he appointed Kamala Harris as his vice-president, making her the first person of colour to hold that office – and Joe Biden isn’t stopping there.

America’s new president is making good on his campaign promise of a “cabinet that looks like America” with his pick of office-bearers that include plenty of firsts.

The cabinet, which has long been predominantly white and male, will look very different under Biden – fewer than half of his 25-member cabinet will be white and 48% will be female, making it even more representative than former boss Barack Obama’s team.
