Introducing Jester Bunny – and no, he’s not an up-and-coming protégé of the Crocs-wearing rapper Bad Bunny, although he is nearly as tall as him.

Jester is a real bunny and a really big bunny at that. At 20 months old, he is a metre long and weighs in at 9kg – the same as a trio of Chihuahuas.

His “mom” is Lyn Hobson (62), who dotes on Jester.

The big bunny is from a breed of rabbits known as Continental Giants, which can grow up to nearly three times the size of ordinary rabbits. This German bunny breed was originally bred for meat, but Jester will not be seeing the inside of a cooking pot.

“When people see him they always comment on how big he is,” Lyn says. “People think having a Continental Giant for a pet is a bit funny because not many people have them, I suppose.”

Jester is more than a pet and an interesting topic of conversation, she adds. He’s also a model bunny, having already appeared on the covers of two books, and is prepping for a rush of work at Easter time.

Lyn, who manages Jester’s Instagram page, says her boy is “unexpectedly a bit of a celebrity in the rabbit world after all this. Hopefully he can do a bit more modelling work next year, especially around Easter, that could be quite busy I think”.

Being a celeb and a model has not gone to Jester’s head, Lyn adds.

“His character is absolutely lovely. He's very loving, calm and well-behaved. Everyone who meets him falls in love, he's just one of those pets that people are drawn towards.”

At home, Jester lives in the house Lyn shares with her husband, Peter, in Scunthorpe, England, where he has his pick of three bedrooms, the freedom to roam the garden – he knows to wipe his paws before coming indoors – and his own en-suite litter box.

“Jester is the best pet anyone could wish for,” Lyn says proudly.
