This guy might be onto something.
Italian student Andrea Colonnetta (22) got his Covid vaccination jab, but was worried he might misplace his green pass, his proof of vaccination card.
Without the card, Andrea would not be able to enter certain public spaces in Italy, including restaurants, gyms and museums. Deciding it was better to be safe than sorry, Andrea had the Covid-19 vaccination QR code tattooed on his left bicep.
The black patterned square of his ink went viral on TikTok after a video was shared of a friend using his phone to scan Andrea’s arm to retrieve his proof of vaccination.
“It's certainly something original – I like to be different,” he said.
In another video, the student uses his QR tattoo to enter a McDonald’s. The QR code produces digital proof of his coronavirus vaccination certificate.
Given the intricacies of QR codes, having it tattooed on your body is a tricky business. The artist needs to allow enough space between the black squares, and the area getting inked needs to be as flat as possible.
The ink in the tattoo may shift once the tattoo has healed, so this also needs to be taken into consideration by the artist.
