His social media feed is filled with photos of his son, a cute little boy with blond locks and blue eyes, and in the pictures Ryan Sanderson is clearly a doting dad.

He calls himself a seahorse dad, a reference to the male fish who carries and births its young – and it’s a fitting description because Ryan gave birth to little Hendrick, an experience he describes as life changing.

The 24-year-old dad from Manchester in England, who was assigned female at birth, discovered nine weeks into his male transition that he was pregnant. “I found out during a doctor’s visit after being on testosterone for over two months,” Ryan says.
