Babies seem to be getting bigger and bigger these days. While an average newborn weighs between 2,5kg and 4,5kg, an Australian woman has given birth to a hefty 6,6kg bundle of joy.
The Australian took to Tik Tok where she joked she “gave birth to a toddler”.
The TikTok user, known only as @shans1588, opened up about her incredible birth story after users were asked to share the weight of their biggest baby. “At 38 weeks and one day, I had my second son delivered via C-section by two doctors – because he came in at a whopping 14 pounds, 0,6 ounces (approximately 6,6kg),” she posted.
“Yes, I gave birth to a toddler.”

The mom said her son, whose name she did not mention, was 60cm long at birth. The newborn spent 11 days in the neonatal intensive care unit, where they didn’t have big enough diapers for the giant baby. “He also came home in clothing sized six to nine months,” she added.

“That baby was ready to come out at eight months already,” another joked.

This isn’t the first giant baby to hit the headlines. In 2018, a 42-year-old Russian woman gave birth to a 6kg baby without pain relievers or medical assistance. Local health officials later released a statement saying the mom, whose name was not released, and her baby were doing well.
A year later, Joy Buckley from the US welcomed her daughter, Harper, who weighed 7kg. The newborn was 58cm long at birth. “I knew she was going to be big, but I didn’t anticipate no 15-pound baby,” Joy quipped at the time.
