A great puzzle is something that can be solved and enjoyed by anyone, no matter their age or level of skill. It transports you to another world, even for a little while, and for that time you escape reality.

That’s what one of the world’s greatest puzzle masters believed. And he knew a thing or two about it – he made the game of Sudoku popular the world over.

Maki Kaji recently died at the age of 69 of bile-duct cancer. The publisher and puzzle enthusiast was known as the godfather of Sudoku for bringing the number puzzle to a global audience.
