If you’re nursing a grudge towards an ex-lover, this is a Valentine’s Day event you’ll fall in love with!

The San Antonia Zoo in Texas in America is holding a Cry Me a Cockroach fundraiser where people can name a cockroach or a rat that will be fed to one of the zoo’s animals.

It costs just $5 (R75) for the naming rights to a cockroach that will be fed to a bird, or $25 (R375) to name a rat that zookeepers will feed to a reptile, CNN reports.

“If your ex was a snake, you can name a pre-frozen rat after them, and we’ll feed it to a reptile,” the zoo wrote on its website.

For non-meat eaters, the zoo also offers a vegetarian option – lettuce, cabbage and other greens will be fed to herbivores.

The zoo will be live-streaming the event on its Facebook page on Valentine’s Day.

Last year the fundraiser brought in $45 000 (then R652 500) for the zoo, and scorned lovers each get a social media certificate on which they can tag their ex.

All proceeds will go towards expanding the zoo’s jaguar habitat.

In 2019, the Wild Life Sydney Zoo in Australia offered grumpy singletons the chance to name one of the zoo’s venomous brown snakes after their ex.

“We hope that by providing someone unlucky in love the opportunity to name Sydney Zoo’s very own brown snake after their ex, we can give them something else to celebrate on Valentine’s Day,” said the zoo’s general manager, Mark Connolly.

In 2015 a Las Vegas shooting range offered a Just Divorced experience, which allowed bitter divorcés to shoot items from their wedding such as the bridal gown with a machine gun – but not pictures of their exes.

“They can do that [shoot a picture] privately, but if a nut job shoots a husband or wife in the light of day, we don’t want to be involved in a lawsuit,” said Genghis Cohen, owner of Machine Guns Vegas.

The experience, which cost $499 (then R7 734) for four guests, came with 40 rounds of ammunition.
