Millions of people fell in love with these amazing creatures after watching the moving documentary My Octopus Teacher earlier this year – now a new video has been released to make us wonder at the ability of these multi-legged creatures all over again.

Described as the closest thing we will get to an alien on earth, the octopus is one of the most adaptable animals under the sea, as footage released on Discovery Channel’s Facebook page recently shows.

The octopus appears to be walking and even running along the seabed and has caused a sensation on the internet.

“I never cease to be amazed by this amazing planet,” one fan comments.

“One of the coolest animals on the planet,” another says.

A study has shown how the creatures like to “walk about” when getting around. According to the journal Science, the sea creatures were the first animals without a hard skeleton to walk on two of its limbs.

“Octopuses will use their two legs to move and six arms to transform their bodies into clumps of algae or rolling coconut shells that may not interest predators to protect themselves,” the journal says.

This is not the first time a video of these extraordinary creatures has made headlines.

Last year, a short video, which is now part of an upcoming documentary called Octopus: Making Contact, of an octopus changing colour while “dreaming” went viral and created buzz on the internet. “That has got to be one of the most fascinating natural abilities in the natural world. Instantaneous colour change!” someone commented.
