'It's such a relief': Wordle creator Josh Wardle reacts after his game sells for a seven-figure sum

He developed the popular game as a gift for his puzzle-addict girlfriend – but now this labour of love has scored British software engineer Josh Wardle a lucrative payday.

The New York Times recently announced that it has bought Wordle, Josh's addictive game, for an undisclosed sum, thought to be in the low seven-figure range.  And clearly Jonathan Knight, general manager for New York Times Games, considers it money well spent. 

“The game has done what so few games have done – it has captured our collective imagination and brought us all a little closer together," he says.
