The festive season will be a muted affair in this family ’s home. Every activity has to be carefully planned and each outing meticulously researched to make sure they don’t pose too much of a danger for the eight-year-old girl this family is trying so desperately to keep safe. 

Little Hayden Foster of Randfontein on the Gauteng West Rand has 10 ticking time bombs inside her and anything can set them off – running too fast, playing sport and pretty much doing anything kids her age usually take for granted. 

She has 10 aneurysms – two in her brain, one in her jaw, one in her abdomen and six in her kidneys – and if one bursts it could claim her life. An aneurysm is a bulge in a blood vessel that causes a weakness in the vessel wall.
