He gazes at his family from the passage between their living room and entertainment area, his face frozen in time.  

One of the beautifully framed photographs is of Charl Kinnear in front of the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court, another is of him in his police uniform and there’s one of him with his family – wife Nicolette (47) and sons Carlisle (24) and Casleigh (19). 

These pictures have always been precious to Nicolette and the boys but they’re even dearer now because pictures and memories are all they have left of their husband and father.
