The message from his family at the funeral was heartbreaking. “He felt too deeply and he loved too much.”

Rikhado Makhado, the rapper known as Riky Rick, has left a trail of shock and tears in his wake – the latest casualty in a grim parade of high-profile South African men to take their own lives.

Actors Patrick Shai and Jabu Christopher Kubheka and musician Jabulani Tsambo – better known as Hip Hop Pantsula or HHP – have all fallen prey to what former public protector Thuli Madonsela described as a “silent killer”. And the country is still reeling from the shock of Riky’s death.
