A young  woman sets off for a stroll with her pets on leashes. Nothing extraordinary about that, you may think – until you take a closer look.

The two tawny creatures on the leashes aren’t dogs but springboks and they keep their owner on her toes, gambolling about like, well, the young buck they are.

But Sunel van der Merwe doesn’t mind. She’ll do anything for the two bokkies that might well have been a jackal’s dinner if this farm girl from Warrenton in the Northern Cape hadn’t come to their rescue.
