The three-bedroom house was almost 50 years old and had withstood everything the elements had flung its way – fierce thunderstorms, hammering hail and the relentless heat and humidity of summer.

So when the rain started on 10 April, Tia-Louise Talbot (25) and her fiancé, Damian Stone (26), weren’t all that worried. In fact, when it was still pouring the next day in Pinetown, eThekwini, they went outside to dance in the rain.

Their feet started sinking as they touched the grass but they weren’t overly concerned, Tia recalls – the ground was just soft, they figured.
