When Ryno Mulder went in to wake his daughter, Mienke, she was completely still. “It was as if she’d simply stopped breathing,” Ryno says of his little girl.
“But she was so peaceful, her hands relaxed.” Ryno says their eldest daughter, Leané (7), was right behind him when he found Mienke (3).
“So I had to keep my composure. I calmly walked to [his wife] Verna and said, ‘My love, today is the day we’ve been fearing’,” he says. Mienke’s story struck a chord in hearts of people across South Africa in 2017, and people have been following her journey ever since.
