This elderly couple are separated by the coronavirus.

Pictures have emerged showing a married couple of 60 years heartbreakingly separated by the coronavirus.

Gene Campbell (89) is seen communicating with his wife, Dorothy (88), through a window at the Life Care Centre in Washington in the US, where he’s quarantined inside, Metro reports.

Several people in the centre have died from Covid-19 and current residents are in quarantine as officials try to prevent the disease from spreading.

Gene’s wife, as well as friends and family of other residents, have been banned from the centre.

Dorothy, who was accompanied by her son, Charlie, a registered nurse, can be seen at a window trying to get a glimpse of and communicate with her partner of six decades.

In the heartbreaking snaps, Charlie can be seen communicating with his dad and showing him something on his cellphone.

Concern continues to grow for residents inside the centre as the number of confirmed cases in Washington jumped to 70 this week, according to Daily Mail.

The majority of the cases in Washington state have been linked to the care centre.
