An artist recently revealed how a customer offered to pay for one of his paintings with a crocodile – and he accepted.

Victor Kaplun (27) from Russia specialises in portraits for clients and his work is becoming increasingly popular. He’s typically been getting between R6 800 and R9 000 for a piece of his art, but his prices have been on the rise.

Although it remains unclear what artwork the painter exchanged for the crocodile, it’s alleged to be an illustration of the client’s recent holiday in the Maldives.

It’s also unknown why the man didn’t have cash, but the artist said he found it difficult to refuse the offer because he’d always had a fascination with crocodiles.

However, his enjoyment was short-lived after he discovered he wouldn’t be allowed to keep the croc at his home because of a new law that was introduced to ban such animals.

“I’m going to pass it to the local zoo and will sponsor it in the future. I’ll be coming to visit and see if everything is okay with it,” Victor said.
