A man was arrested in Saudi Arabia after a video of him slapping his screaming baby daughter went viral.

Yousif Alqutai, a Palestinian national, was filmed hitting the toddler across the face and on the back while attempting to get her to stand, Daily Mail reports.

He went on to grab the unnamed child by the scruff of the neck and dangled her above the ground as she cries uncontrollably, Sun UK reports.

Alqutai has issued an apology in which he blames his wife for the abuse, saying she caused him psychological damage, Metro UK reports.

“Their mother left all four of our children with me and it has been difficult – as you can see in front of you there’s nothing wrong with them," he said.

The video was taken a long time ago, he claims, saying that he now wants forgiveness.

Saudi police said in a statement that Alqutai’s four children would be provided with the necessary care after their ordeal.

His family reportedly have also disowned him.
