A heartbroken wife is opening up for the first time about her husband’s tragic death after he was killed by a single punch at a Christmas party.
Christine Edwards (57), from South Wales, watched in horror as her husband, Vaughan (52), was knocked to the ground by one punch in an attack at their company’s Christmas bash last year, Mirror UK reports.
Vaughan, a managing director at the company, had gotten into an altercation with one of the company’s factory workers, David Jenkins (38).
He was rushed to hospital and his family spent Christmas day in hospital with him but he tragically died four weeks later, Sun UK reports.
Now a year later, a devastated Christine recalls how the festive season was her husband’s favourite time of year.
“Every Christmas had a theme and he’d go all out to make sure we had everything for a perfect day,” she says.
“He was going to cook a big meal on Christmas Eve, and had written the menu up on a board in the kitchen – we couldn’t bring ourselves to wipe it off for ages after.”
The mom-of-two is backing the Just Walk Away campaign which aims to tackle alcohol related attacks.
“If you get into a confrontational situation on a night out, please be the bigger person and just walk away,” Detective Chief Inspector Phil Rowe, says.
“Our world has been turned upside down,” Christine added. “I want people to know what a good person he was.”
