A gripping love story of a fugitive who raised a beautiful family with his wife for almost four decades before his recapture has gone viral and tugged at the heartstrings of many.

Cheryl Love from North Carolina in the US recently revealed that her husband, who she knew as Bobby, was actually a fugitive who’d been wanted by the police for escaping prison after taking part in a bank robbery in the ’70s, People reports.

Speaking in an interview as part of a photographic series with photo blogger Brandon Stanton for his Instagram page, Humans of New York, the woman retold their love story and how her husband was recaptured in 2015 after 40 years of being an escapee.

The duo, who have four kids, met in 1977 after Bobby arrived in New York, having escaped from prison where he was meant to serve up to 30 years for robbery with a firearm.

He’d obtained forged identification documentation that enabled him to apply for a driver’s license and got a job working in a hospital cafeteria where he met Cheryl.

The re-arrest came nearly 40 years later when authorities came knocking on their door one morning while Cheryl was in the kitchen making tea.

“I heard them ask: ‘What’s your name?’” Cheryl recalled of the fateful morning.

“And he said, ‘Bobby Love.’ Then they said, ‘No. What’s your real name?’ And I heard him say something real low. And they responded: ‘You’ve had a long run’.”

That was the day Cheryl’s life took a drastic turn.

“The officer kept saying: ‘Get back, get back. You don’t know who this man is.’ Then they started putting him in handcuffs,” she said.

“It didn’t make any sense. I’d been married to Bobby for 40 years. He didn’t even have a criminal record.”

After Bobby was arrested, Cheryl would visit him in prison. He shared his fears of her leaving him, but the devoted wife assured her husband she’d do no such thing.

“I told him, 'No, Bobby Love. I married you for better or for worse. And right now this is the worst.’”

A year after he was arrested Bobby was paroled but Cheryl had a pressing question to get off her chest.

“'What is it? Are we the Loves? Or are we the Millers?' and he said, 'We Love. We Love.' So I had him change his name legally. And now we're moving on.”

In the comments section of the captivating love story was an unexpected user, actress Jennifer Garner, who left many in stitches with her priceless quips, E! News reported.

“Holy nuts,” a shocked Jennifer commented on the post.

“You’re really taking your sweet time doling out the goods, @humansofny We’re all in agony – have mercy and give us Cheryl,” the actress added as she awaited the rest of the photographic series.
