Parents charged with murder after pool pump claims girl’s life

A couple are facing second-degree murder and neglect charges after their daughter’s arm was sucked into a swimming pool pump.

The Russian couple, who were on holiday in Bodum, Turkey, had earlier complained to officials about the pool facilities at their four-star hotel little knowing this would lead to their daughter untimely death.

Twelve-year-old Alisa Adamova, described as a strong swimmer by her parents, was trapped underwater for more than 15 minutes when her arm was sucked into the pipe of the pool pump after she’d come down a water slide

Witnesses say there was no lifeguard on duty when the incident happened and that the girl’s father had to jump into the pool to save his daughter.

“The dad tried to retrieve his daughter’s arm from the pump pipe but it was strongly sucked into it, even after staff switched off the pump,” an eyewitness said.

Alisa was rushed to hospital and remained in a coma for 10 days before she died.

Turkish police have recommended that the hotel managers face prosecution, but it’s also felt that the girl’s parents didn’t properly supervise their daughter.

Speaking to Russian media, a family member said, “The case is starting to take an interesting turn.

“In Turkey both parents are charged with second-degree murder – they’re saying we didn’t look after the child.”
