Bacon is no doubt the most loved breakfast staple in many homes. It’s salty, fatty and just hits the right spot – it’s simply yummy!
But according to chef Jeff Baker, who’s cooked up a storm for Queen Elizabeth, we’ve been making bacon the wrong way.
Jeff who has more than 30 years’ experience as a chef, told Mirror News that the tasty treat should be nice and crisp.
So what’s the best way to make bacon according to this professional?
He told the Daily Star that the pan must be “nice and hot”.
“Then add your rashers and sear them on both sides. This should create caramelisation – which makes it nice and crispy and gives it a punchier flavour,” he explained.
According to the chef, the medium to high heat pan is the best way to cook bacon with a small amount of natural fat, searing it on each side for about a minute.
“If the bacon is properly dry-cured and cut to a nice thickness, it should caramelise on the edges. The fat will then render without dissolving, resulting in delicious flavour.”
He also doesn’t believe in using any condiments to add more flavour to the bacon.
“In my opinion, if cooked this way the bacon won’t need any sauce to enhance the taste – it’ll be perfect as it is,” Wales Online quoted him.
