The family and loved ones of Ruan Voges (24) are devastated after the handyman from Springs, Gauteng, was killed by an unidentified motorist in a hit-and-run incident.

Ruan had been visiting his cousin Morné Myburgh in Parys in the Free State on Friday 6 March when the accident occurred.

“Ruan and Morné had visited a local pub and were crossing Breë Street around midnight,” says Ruan’s brother, Ronnie. “A grey Corsa or Bantam bakkie hit Ruan. The driver stopped to see what had happened but then sped away.”

Ruan was taken to a Bloemfontein hospital but passed away the following day.

“How do you just leave someone to their fate like that? That person needs to be caught,” Ronnie says.

He adds that a few eyewitnesses have come forward and they’re waiting for more information.

“Apparently there’s CCTV in the street and footage from it was given to the police.”

Ruan’s family are offering a reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to the driver’s arrest.

Anyone with information should please call Ruan’s sister, Elzette, on 073-068-9811. Police are investigating a case of manslaughter.
