A smartphone that catches criminals

Within just a week of purchasing his Cat S61 smartphone, SAPS officer Stoffel Holtzhauzen was able to catch two dangerous criminals that had previously evaded custody – simply by using his phone’s thermal imaging camera to identify where the criminals were hiding. The phone could sense their thermal heat signatures.

Stoffel has also dropped his S61 on numerous occasions while being in the line of duty, but staying true to its rugged reputation, his cellphone withstood every impact.

“It’s fallen out of my pocket while driving on a police motorcycle and sustained damage, but was still fully functional when I picked it up. I would like to thank Cat for this marvellous phone they’ve designed.”

The Cat S61 smartphone has a thermal imaging feature – which can detect temperatures up to 30m away. It has a heavy-duty design with a strengthened die-cast frame and an operating temperature between -25°C and 55°C. The CatS61 also comes with a range of other incredible features that are hard to find in other smartphones. It’s built to military defence specifications and has an IP68 (Ingress Protection) rating, which means it’s waterproof and can be submerged in 5m of water for up to 60 minutes. The Corning® Gorilla® glass screen can survive an impact against concrete from up to 1,8 metres.
