This fun, affordable vehicle has a squared-off look and features rugged-urban-styling on the outside. On the inside, it’s all about comfort, excellent ergonomics and great exterior visibility. The upper fascia houses the large touchscreen infotainment system and ventilation outlets, and the lower section incorporates the climate control switchgear, a storage compartment and power/USB outlets.

The twin-hooded instrument binnacle features easy-to-read elliptical gauges and a multi-information display (MID). The silver trim inserts with a 3D cube-shaped motif add an element of brightness to the otherwise black interior, which includes black fabric seats.

Park and pack with ease

This vehicle’s design followed the ‘compact on the outside, spacious on the inside’ mantra. Its short overall length makes tricky city parking a breeze, yet its wider and taller body shape gives it a solid stance. The large rear tailgate provides a large aperture (to make loading items easier) and the 328-litre-litre luggage capacity can be expanded by the folding rear seats. A towing capacity of 400kg unbraked and 1100kg braked ramps ups the utility factor.

Under the hood

The Urban Cruiser is powered by a 1.5L naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine delivering 77kW and 138 Nm. Fuel consumption is 6.2L/100km, while CO₂ emissions fall within the 145 to 147 g/km range. Top speed is between 165km/h (automatic) and 170km/h (manual). You have the option of a 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic (depending on the grade), all driving the front wheels.

Suspension and chassis

A traditional MacPherson strut front suspension layout has been adopted with a Torsion Beam design in the rear. The vehicle is fitted with 16-inch wheels (steel versions on the entry model and alloy for the rest) that are shod with either 205-60-R16 or 215-60-R16 tyres.

All models come with the Toyota Connect telematics system which includes an in-car WiFi hotspot and complimentary, once-off 15GB data. Pricing, warranty and maintenance

All models are sold with a 3-services/45 000 km service plan, and a 3-year/100 000 km warranty is also provided.
