The Buzz has become a fan favourite as a fresh talk show featuring five diverse women from across the continent. South Africa’s Anele Mdoda hosts the show alongside Pearl Umeh (Nigeria), Zanna Katoka (DRC), Rachel Mwangemi (Kenya) and Davina Mavuwa (Zimbabwe). The show has amassed a loyal audience with viewers sharing their experiences weekly on social media. As The Buzz moves into its sixth season on DStv’s Pan-African lifestyle channel (173), with a new time slot (Mondays and Wednesdays | 6PM CAT), we take a look at the five most memorable topics the show has covered so far.
Your five:
Hani from Somalia wrote in about her lack of excitement about her upcoming arranged marriage. What shocked the panel was that the issue wasn’t about arranged marriage itself, but rather the man they had chosen to pair her with. The result was a learning moment for the panel.
Ozi from Cameroon wrote in about the fact that his girlfriend wets the bed at night. The panel was puzzled by the letter, which was also one of the first the show had received from a male viewer. It turned into another learning moment in the history of the show as the panel discovered that it could be the result of a medical condition rather than what appeared to be carelessness.
Badinabi from the DRC expressed her concern over her cheating partner, to which the panel responded with sympathy. After a heated conversation, all but one of the panellists voted for her to leave the partnership as a result of the infidelity.
Zuhrah from Ghana divided the panel when she wrote in about a partner who didn’t excite her sexually. The conversation was split between those who believed she should stay in the relationship, and those who disagreed.
Alice from Nigeria wrote in to express her concern over her son’s relationship. The letter sparked a conversation about how much say parents had in the relationships of their adult children. Not everyone agreed that Alice’s concern was unfounded or inappropriate.
