A 10th anniversary is traditionally a time for diamonds and Prince William might well have surprised his wife, Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, with a beautiful necklace featuring the fabulous stones.

The couple released official royal portraits to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary and in one of the images, Kate can be seen sitting beside her husband holding his hand.

“Taken this week ahead of The Duke and Duchess’ 10th wedding anniversary,” the couple’s Instagram caption read.

The duchess also wore a sparkly new diamond flower-shaped pendant, which royal followers suspect could be a present from the future king.

The gorgeous gemstone is an Asprey Daisy Heritage Pendant, which costs around £8 848 (R177 500) and has a matching pair of earrings that Kate already owns, according to The Sun.

Although the jeweller won’t disclose whether William bought it for Kate, a typical gift for a 10th anniversary is usually tin or diamonds, which signify the strength and durability of a relationship that stood the test of time.

Royal insiders say it’s likely the pair spent their anniversary at home with their three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

“I suspect they will do what most working couples will do,” says royal writer Ingrid Seward. “I would think that they’ll just have a private celebration at home. They’ll probably be inviting friends, they can do that [now lockdown restrictions have eased somewhat].”

For their first wedding anniversary, Kate reportedly cooked William fish en papillote, which is fish wrapped in parchment paper, to symbolise the first anniversary gift of paper, according to Woman & Home.

In 2015, the pair had a low-key celebration and spent their anniversary in Buckingham Palace’s pool while awaiting the arrival of their second child, Charlotte. Kate gave birth three days later on 2 May.

Last year, royal experts believe the prince bought Kate a pair of diamond earrings, which she wore during a Zoom call appearance to share a message about mental health during the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Marie Claire, the milky quartz diamond earrings were handmade in Mauritius and inspired by the colours of the Indian Ocean.

The pair also shared a throwback picture of their wedding day. “Nine years ago today – thank you for all your lovely messages on The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding anniversary!” they captioned the post.
