She really is made of stern stuff. The past few months must have been unbearably hard on her – losing her husband, having to deal with the fallout from her grandson Harry’s outbursts, coping with the continuing effects of the pandemic on her beloved England . . .

But does Your Majesty hide away from the world and feel sorry for herself? She does not. Stiff upper lips don’t get much stiffer than this – although the queen has been doing a lot of smiling lately too.

The monarch may be 95 but she recently proved in an action-packed weekend that when it comes to stamina, she is in a league of her own.
