Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, has contracted the coronavirus while her husband, Prince Charles, has also tested positive for the second time.
Clarence House confirmed her diagnosis in a statement on 14 February, saying, “Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall has tested positive for Covid-19 and is self-isolating. We continue to follow government guidelines.”
Camilla (74) and Charles (73) have both been fully vaccinated. The Prince of Wales has said they received their booster shots in December 2021. He tested positive for a second time last week after previously battling the virus in March 2020.
Clarence House confirmed the news in a statement, saying the prince was deeply disappointed not to be able to attend his royal engagements in Winchester.
Camilla's last engagement was to open The Nourish Hub, a community kitchen in Shepherd’s Bush, London, which works in conjunction with UK Harvest of which she’s a patron.
Meanwhile the duchess is said to be touched by the queen’s recent gesture of awarding her the title of queen consort when Charles ascends the throne.
Her relationship with the monarch has improved dramatically over the years, especially since she and Charles were married in 2005, bringing an end to her “mistress” tag – Camilla was the "other woman" Princess Diana famously referred to in her 1995 BBC interview when she said there were "three of us in this marriage".
“Through her dedication and loyalty to The Firm, she’s more than proved to [the queen] that she has what it takes,” an insider says.
Meanwhile, there’s concern for the queen’s health as Charles was at Windsor Castle with her just two days before he received his latest diagnosis.
The 95-year-old monarch, who’s fully vaccinated, is being monitored, and has so far not shown any symptoms, according to palace sources.
Earlier this month Her Majesty celebrated her platinum jubilee, which marks her record-breaking 70 years on the British throne.
