They’ve been hailed for their quiet dedication to duty and Prince Edward (57) and Sophie, Countess of Wessex (56), have once again exemplified that.
The queen’s youngest son and his wife spent time volunteering at a homeless charity in the drama-filled days following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell Oprah Winfrey tell-all.
Their low-profile visit saw the pair helping to prepare food parcels for York Road Project, an organisation that provides support and accommodation to the homeless in Woking.
In a series of photos posted by the organisation on Twitter, the casually dressed couple could be seen getting stuck in in the kitchen with Edward rolling out dough for ginger biscuits.
The organisation thanked the pair for volunteering their time. “The earl and countess helped prepare lunchtime snacks for clients which included banana muffins, sausage rolls, cheese and onion twists and ginger biscuits.
“Their Royal Highnesses joined staff and volunteers to pack the weekly goodie bags for the clients.”
Meanwhile, a new royal documentary paints Prince Edward as the queen’s favourite child.
Speaking on Channel 5’s documentary Edward & Sophie: The Reluctant Royals?, journalist Ayesha Hazarika says, “I think it's fair to say that he was very much the baby of the family. He really was the apple of the queen’s eye."
Other royal experts weighed in saying his father, Prince Philip, felt the same.
“Edward was a particular favourite of his father, the Duke of Edinburgh,” says royal author Richard Kay. “There was a strong bond between father and son right from the get-go.”
Royal expert Ingrid Seward adds, “He was the first of the four children that Prince Philip was actually there at the bedside during the birth. The world had moved on and he was more of a modern father.”
