It’s no secret that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has a strained relationship with many of her American family members and this latest incident certainly proves that.
Her older half-brother, Thomas Markle Jnr, who’s joined the cast of Australia’s Big Brother VIP, has slammed his famous sister in the show’s trailer, calling her shallow.
The series, which promises to contain explosive drama, teased viewers with a clip introducing Thomas, a window fitter from Oregon in the US. “I’m Meghan Markle’s brother,” he says. “I’m the biggest brother of them all.”
The 55-year-old then proceeded to drop a bombshell, alleging he told Meghan’s husband, Prince Harry, “I think she’s going to ruin your life. She’s shallow.”
Growing up, Meghan (40) didn’t spend much time with Thomas and her half-sister, Samantha (56) – they moved away with their mom, Rosalyn, while Meghan was still a toddler.
Rosalyn was married to Thomas Markle (now 77), father of Thomas Jnr, Samantha and Meghan, from 1964 to 1975. He then married Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland (64), in 1979 and they divorced in 1987.
Despite not being around while Meghan was growing up, Thomas Jnr hasn’t been shy about speaking out about the Markle family feud.
In a 2018 letter to Harry (36), he called his half-sister a “jaded, shallow, conceited woman that will make a joke of you and the royal family heritage”.
That same year he told the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper that being a celebrity had changed his sister.
“Maybe she feels like she’s above everybody, maybe even more now. But if she wasn’t with Prince Harry right now – even if she was still on Suits right now – she would’ve stopped what she was doing to go and visit [her father] and make sure he’s okay.”
At the time Thomas Snr was suffering from serious health problems, which resulted in him not being able to attend Meghan and Harry’s wedding in England in May 2018.
“I think [the family’s ongoing feud] got ignored and swept under the carpet for so long,” Thomas Jnr said.
Meghan’s dad recently threatened to sue his youngest daughter and son-in-law for not letting him see their kids, Archie (2) and two-month-old Lilibet.
In 2019 Roslyn (now 75) blasted her ex-husband as an awful father to his children, saying Meghan was right to be estranged from him.
“Repeatedly he’s shown to Meghan he can’t be trusted. She must know that now. I speak not out of bitterness – my life moved on many years ago – but out of concern. Archie deserves to be brought up in a happy home, not in this vengeful situation that’s been created.”
She claimed that during their marriage Thomas took drugs and had affairs, allegations he’s denied.
