It was their first public sighting together since the birth of their baby boy and Mike and Zara Tindall certainly didn’t disappoint when they stepped out at the races this week.

The couple, who welcomed son Lucas in March, were dressed to the nines with the former English rugby player in a morning suit and top hat and his wife in a polka dot print pussybow dress by Me+Me, the London label also favoured by the Kate, Duchess of Cambridge.

Zara teamed the dress with a fascinator from Juliette Botterill Millinery and Ray Ban sunglasses.

They weren’t the only royals in attendance on day one of the Royal Ascot races, which runs from 15-19 June and is a highlight on the royal calendar.

Zara’s mother, Princess Anne, attended along with Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, as well as Prince Edward, and his wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex. Of course this year's races also added a new accessory: face masks, with Camilla’s expertly matching her striped coat.

Not in attendance was the queen – but for good reason. She hosted a meeting with Australia’s Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, at Windsor Castle.

Nevertheless for royal fans it was great to see the family out in full force again – and on a more joyous occasion. The last time they all gathered was for Prince Philip’s funeral at Windsor in April.

Last year none attended Ascot as it was closed to the public due to the pandemic.

Baby Lucas – whose middle names is Philip, a tribute to both Mike’s father, Philip Tindall, and the late Duke of Edinburgh – has seen the Tindall’s brood swell to three.

He joins their daughters, Mia (7) and Lena (2), and was born at the couple’s home in Gatcombe Park.

In an interview on The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast, Mike admitted he arrived “very quickly, on the bathroom floor. We didn’t make it to hospital”.
