They were once so close, royal brothers bound together forever by blood and family circumstance but oh, how things have changed.
Harry’s departure from the UK and his life as a working royal and the bombshell interview he and his wife, Meghan Markle, gave to Oprah Winfrey have caused an ever-widening wedge between the princes.
But despite all the drama, a royal insider says William (38) still sorely misses his younger brother and the happy times they once had together.
“Once he got over the anger of how things happened, he was left with the absence of his brother,” the aide told the UK’s Sunday Times.
“They shared everything about their lives – an office, a foundation, meetings together most days and there was a lot of fun along the way. He’ll miss it forever.”
The source also said the future king hoped their relationship could be repaired at some point.
“He’s very upset by what’s happened, though absolutely intent that he and Harry’s relationship will heal in time.”
In his interview with Oprah, Harry (36) revealed that he “loves his brother to bits” but that they are now “on different paths”.
“William is also definitely feeling the pressure now, it’s all on him,” another source claims in the article.
“His future looks different because of his brother’s choices – it’s not easy.”
Senior members of the royal family, including William and his wife, Kate, have all had to pick up the extra duties that came with the Sussexes stepping down as royals.
There’s been much speculation as to whether Harry will return to England in June for his grandfather Prince Philip’s 100th birthday as well as on 1 July for the unveiling of a statue of his mother, Princess Diana.
He and William had planned to stand “shoulder to shoulder” at the memorial to mark what would have been Diana’s 60th birthday.
According to a royal correspondent both brothers will show up.
“I can exclusively reveal that William is still committed, as is Harry, to get together for the unveiling of the statue at Kensington Gardens,” Russell Myers told the UK morning show Lorraine last week.
“This could be a monumental period for the brothers. And I think people will be delighted to see them back together.”
