It was not a happy-looking Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, or Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, who emerged a day after the bombshell Oprah Winfrey’s interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan.
Both women were seen as they went about their business on International Women’s Day with Kate (38) donning a mask as she drove her car around London.
Ever the professional though, Kate was her usual warm, smiling self when she did a video call with Jasmine Harrison, who at 21 recently became the youngest woman to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean last.
Kate asked Jasmine, who hails from Yorkshire, how it felt to be at sea alone for 70 days, to which she replied, “To be in the peace of the ocean for so many days, you get to appreciate the world we live in in a way we can't when life is busy.”
The duchess praised Jasmine's feat. “You’re inspiring loads of other women and young girls to follow in your footsteps,” she told her.
Kate and Prince William (38) came under attack in the Sussexes’ interview, with Meghan (39) accusing her sister-in-law of making her cry when the two clashed at a bridesmaids fitting before Meghan’s wedding.
Harry (36) also said he felt sorry for his brother and father, Prince Charles (72), as they were “trapped” in a royal life. He also spoke about how his father had “financially cut him off”.
Charles and William are both said to be “devastated” by the claims made in the interview.
It’s also since emerged that Meghan blamed both Kate and Camilla for “leaking stories about her” to the media during her unhappy time as a senior royal in the UK.
Meanwhile Meghan’s half-sister, Samantha Markle, has come out guns blazing in the aftermath of her sibling’s explosive interview.
The 56-year-old blasted the duchess for using depression as an excuse when Meghan told Oprah she felt suicidal at times while living as a royal in England.
“Depression is not an excuse for treating people like dishrags and disposing of them,” she told Inside Edition, referring to the bullying claims that have emerged against Meghan by some of her former aides.
Samantha, who recently released her tell-all book, Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister: Part 1, also said Meghan lied about “not knowing her” and growing up as an only child.
“I don't know how she can say I don’t know her and she was an only child. We’ve got photographs over a lifespan so how can she not know me?”
She also rubbished Meghan’s claim to Oprah that she changed her surname from Grant to Markle when Meghan began dating Harry. “I was a Markle before her. Markle has always been my name.”
