As royal family pics go, this gorgeous bunch could give Kate, William and the Cambridge kids a run for their money. Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip (42) and Princess Sofia (36) have released an adorable snap of their family of five, the first since youngest member Julian arrived on the scene in March.

Basking in the summer sun, Carl Philip and Sofia were all smiles as they posed with their cute-as-a-button sons, Prince Alexander (5), Prince Gabriel (3) and tiny Prince Julian, who looked faintly bemused at all the goings-on.

"A summer greeting from our family," they captioned the shot.

"Life gave me not only one but four beautiful princes,’ Princess Sofia shared on the couple’s Instagram. “A sincere thank you from us for all the warm congratulations in connection with Julian's birth.”

Little Julian, currently seventh-in-line to the Swedish throne, is to be baptised at Drottningholm Palace's church on 14 August.

He is first grandchild of the king, Carl Philip’s father Carl XVI Gustaf, to be born without the title of His Royal Highness.

In 2019 the Swedish royal court announced that, except for the two children of heir-apparent Crown Princess Victoria (43), the king’s other grandchildren would lose their HRH titles to lessen the pressure on royals when they become adults.

This means no royal duties and no access to taxpayer funds.

"We see this as positive as Alexander and Gabriel will have freer choices in life,” Carl and Sofia said in 2019.

Ascending the throne after his grandfather’s death when he was just 27 years old, Carl XVI Gustaf has been king for 48 years, making him the longest-reigning monarch in Swedish history.

Carl Philip, only son of the king and Queen Silvia, is currently fourth-in-line to the throne after his older sister, Crown Princess Victoria and her children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar.

Sweden’s monarchy switched up their rule of succession in 1980 so that the first-born child of the monarch is heir to the throne, regardless of their gender.
