Think acne is just something teenagers suffer from? Think again. It’s something that can affect anyone at any age, and it can be distressing when it strikes out of the blue as an adult. 

Acne is caused by an overproduction of oil (sebum) in the sebaceous glands just under the skin, resulting in clogged, inflamed pores. Because hormones are a common trigger of oil production, acne often appears during times of hormonal upheaval, such as pregnancy and menopause.
