Most of us have used the antiseptic Dettol to clean a cut or graze in our lives – and most will agree it smells nasty. So, can you imagine bathing in it?
One woman, however, swears by this strange routine, saying she feels totally “refreshed” after having a bath in Dettol antiseptic liquid once a week.
Mother of two Laura Nicholls (33), from Bridgend, Wales, baffled social media users when she posted her unusual beauty hack in the Facebook group Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It.
“Does anyone else bath in Dettol? Makes you feel so fresh I love it,” she wrote, saying she puts two caps into her bathwater once a week.
“It says on the bottle you can use it in the bath and it’s great for cuts,” she added. “It cleans grazes and it’s really refreshing – I love a Dettol bath, you won’t beat it.”
She says she even gets her eight-year-old son to do it “if he’s been out playing and gets filthy, or grazes his knees and elbows”.
She says she thinks it “smells lovely” and she also “mops her floor with it”.
Of course, social-media users were left divided on her unusual habit.
Sarah Hayles commented, “Twenty-seven years on this earth and I’ve never heard of people bathing in Dettol – is this actually a thing?”
“Only ever bathe in Dettol if someone in the family has a stomach bug,” Emily Bernard wrote.
“It stinks! Not a chance,” was Saira Franklin’s response.
According to the manufacturer’s instructions, Dettol can be used “for antibacterial treatment of water used for personal hygiene”.
Odd indeed. Would you try it?
