The film also explores the far-reaching effects the incident has had on her life.
Alison was kidnapped by two men and raped. She was stabbed in the stomach more than 30 times with a knife after which her throat was slashed. She miraculously survived the attack.
Alison herself narrates the film. It was directed by Uga Carlini who’d been researching the incident since 2012.
Christia Visser (24) portrays Alison in the re-enactments of the attack. Playing Alison “was quite a rough experience”, she told YOU. But, she explained, she’s attracted to roles involving violence against women.
“Alison had to look her demons in the eye. I believe such people’s stories should be told.”
De Klerk Oelofse (26), who portrays rapist Theuns Kruger, says he used transcriptions of the trial to prepare for the role.
“What really shocked me about Kruger is the fact that he first went partying on the night Alison was raped,” he says.
Zak Hendrikz, who played the villain Gavin Greeff in the movie Ballade Vir ’n Enkeling, plays the other attacker, Frans du Toit. The 32-year-old actor agrees with De Klerk: “It was really confusing to research this role. I couldn’t make any connection with these characters.”
But, De Klerk insists, “The documentary is about Alison the survivor and not about Frans and Theuns.”
