This time, it really is goodbye to the Spice Girls.

The 90s Britpop superstars – Mel B, Mel C, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton  had been all set to embark on a world tour in 2023. They were also going to voice an animated superhero movie, Girl Power, based on the Spice Girls, which would've seen Victoria Beckham join them.

But, like so many other well-laid plans the past two years, the pandemic brought it all to a screeching halt.

“It was going brilliantly, but Covid killed the momentum,” a source told The Sun.

“Geri is talking about new TV things, Emma has TV and radio work, and the two Mels are focusing on their own stuff. “Victoria certainly isn’t going to be the one to bring it back to life, so it's fizzled out. They’re done.”

Victoria didn't take part in the group's 2019 concert reunion tour, claiming she was too busy with her fashion label.

“Now it’s over, again,” the source adds. “There’s nothing on the agenda and they’re focusing on their own things.”

While they loved being back on stage, which reinvigorated their love for performing, “a few years of lockdown and everyone’s back has turned on the group in favour of other projects”.

Victoria was also absent when the rest of the group reunited for a commercial for a mobile game last year. The singer-turned-fashion-designer has previously spoken about how difficult it was turning down the invitation to join the concert tour in 2019.

“It took me a lot of courage not to go on tour with the Spice Girls again, but to be the one who says, ‘You know, I’m not doing it because things feel different now than they used to,’” she told Vogue Germany.

The Spice Girls, thankfully, remain BFFs.

Geri, Mel C, Mel B and Emma are on the guestlist for the April wedding of Victoria's son Brooklyn Beckham to model Nicola Peltz.

“It was a lovely invitation and the girls are all excited to attend,” an insider says.

“It'll be the first time they've all been together socially for some time, so they're looking forward to the chance to really catch up.”
