Ten months after they announced their split Gerard Piqué has finally spoken out about his breakup with Colombian pop star Shakira.
The football player and singer were together for 11 years before publicly announcing the end of their relationship in June 2022.
They are parents to sons Milan (10) and Sasha (8).
In January Shakira said she'd found out that the Spaniard had been cheating on her.

While many eagerly awaited to hear the sports star speak about how his relationship ending affected him, Gerard only spoke about how their break-up has affected their boys.
In an interview with Spanish radio programme El món a RAC1, he said he only wanted to protect their children.
“Everyone has their responsibility to try to do what is best for their children. It is about protecting them.
“I think that in the end, the only thing that matters is that my children are fine.”
Six months after the split, Gerard was seen out and about with his new girlfriend, public relations student Clara Chia Marti (23).
Gerard received a lot of online backlash about his new girlfriend, but says he couldn’t be bothered about what anyone thinks of him.
“The problem is how people perceive things or how the press packages it,” he says.
“I’m still doing what I want. I want to be faithful to myself. I’m not going to waste money on cleaning up my image.”
He says he is happy with his life.
“I’m putting my energy on the people that are closest to me and giving them what I have. There’ve been changes in my life and I’ve known how to preserve that happiness.”
Shakira has said that she’s chosen to focus on herself since the split.
“I’ve always been very emotionally dependent on men. I have to confess this. I was in love with love,” she says.
“One way or another, I’ve managed to learn it from another perspective and feel that I’ll be fine on my own.”
Facing hardship in life meant that she came out stronger, the star says.
“When you come out stronger, it means you’re learning to recognise your weaknesses and accept your vulnerability.”
The Hips Don’t Lie singer says she’s grateful to have her two sons with her.
“I feel complete because I feel like I can depend on myself and I have two kids who depend on me.”
Shakira released a new single, TQG, in collaboration with Karol G, which has been labelled a diss track aimed at both their exes.
The track’s lyrics include: “You’re no longer welcome here/Seeing you with the new one hurt me/What we lived I forgot and that is what has offended you/And life has got even better for me.”
Asked about his thoughts on the song, Gerard didn’t respond.
In January, Shakira released a diss track titled Out of Your League, which she said had helped her recover from the break-up.
“I’ve had a very rough year after my separation and writing this song has been so important to me,” she told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.
“It’s been a healthy way to channel my emotions and I feel that after we put out this song, I really felt that I don’t even have fans out there, I have a sisterhood of women.
“I wrote this song for me but I also feel that it was meant for so many women out there that need a forum and a voice to represent them in so many ways.”
